Painting

The final touch to any plastering job, painting plays a crucial role in completing a project. At Oxhorn Limeworks, we take pride in using traditional, natural, and sustainable methods to create beautiful, long-lasting finishes.

Unlike modern paints, which are often made with petroleum-based products, our approach is rooted in nature. We make our own natural paints using traditional clay-based and lime wash techniques, ensuring a breathable and eco-friendly finish that complements our natural plaster work.

Clay-based paint is exactly what it sounds like—clay mixed with water and natural binders like flour to create a beautifully soft, natural finish. The colors come directly from the earth, meaning whatever shade the clay holds is the shade of your paint.

In many cases, we simply use clay sourced locally, keeping our materials as natural and sustainable as possible.

Lime wash offers a wider range of color options, as it can be tinted using natural pigments. We mix our lime washes on-site, combining lime, water, and your chosen pigments to achieve a breathable, durable finish.

This method allows for a unique, hand-applied texture that enhances the character of historic and eco-conscious buildings.

At Oxhorn Limeworks, we believe that the best finishes are those that work in harmony with the materials beneath them. Our paints and lime washes are not just coatings—they are part of the fabric of the building, ensuring a truly traditional and sustainable finish.
